Hi There!
Let me introduce myself. My name is Andrew Cottier and I’m a photographer based in southern Tasmania. Mainly photographing the rugged Tasmanian landscape and beautiful couples tying the knot, I’ve travelled a majority of this amazing island we call home. Growing up in the Midlands I’m always happier out in nature. Mixing my passion for exploring the outdoors and being creative, I eventually bought a camera to document my time exploring and time spent with friends. Over the past 6 years of being a photographer I’ve learnt first hand how important photography can be to immortalise an important memory, person or place in time forever. Photographs can take you back to that exact memory and make you relive the emotions, feelings and happiness of that one moment in your life.
On my days off, you’ll probably find me exploring one of Tasmania’s vast landscapes whether it’s a rugged mountain on the west coast or one of the many beautiful beaches along the east coast. Otherwise I’ll be in the kitchen cooking some sort of pasta meal and enjoying a glass of red or spending time with mates.
My Approach
The most important thing to me is that all newly wed couples I work with enjoy their special day as much as possible, the day is to celebrate the love you two have for one another, not to treat it as a photoshoot. Instead my style is to document the day as it naturally unfolds, capturing the story of you two tying the knot and celebrating one of the best days ever with friends and family.
I’m not huge on posing people but more so capturing the love between you two naturally. I prefer to float around documenting every special moment from your wedding day. Similar when it comes to the couple sessions, I will often invite you two for a relaxing stroll and photograph each moment you two have between one another. I can help give small directions or prompts but I’m not someone who will tell you exactly how to pose. The reason why I capture weddings like this is that I feel it gives the most real reflection of the love that you have for one another and allows me to capture everything truely as it is and as candid as possible. Showcasing the true emotions between you two reflects in the photographs.
Lastly, I love getting to know all my couples I work with before your special day, whether that’s by going out for an engagement shoot, or by having a few calls in the up coming months so that I can learn more about you two and your love story. Getting to know my couples before the special day helps me understand you two but also helps both you two and I become much more relaxed on the big day. Through the process of becoming familiar with each other, I like to reach a stage where on your wedding day it feels more like a new friend will be spending the day with you both capturing all the beautiful moments instead of an absolute stranger following you around all day with a camera in your face.
